Episode 14: The secret to finding your life purpose - living in alignment with your purpose path every day

Hello everyone, lovely listeners of the Podcast, Intuition Tools Podcast: very welcome here.

Let me start off today with this question: Do you sometimes feel bad or insecure because you think you may not be doing what is in lign with your life purpose?

Today’s episode I will be talking about living on purpose in your every day life. You see, a question I get asked I think the most of all is: I want to find out my life purpose.

And I wonder, what will we do once we would have that information? If we would know once and for all what our all-time, big and only life purpose would be, what would we do with that information?

And that is what we expect, right?: we expect it to be ONE life purpose, one thing we are here to do, one thing that we are perfectly talented for and that we need to succeed in having  ‘accomplished’ our lives. Do you know what I mean?

And when I put it like that, do you already feel maybe a bit where I’m going with this?

You see, The thing is, is that we don’t have just one talent, we don’t have just one thing to work on in our lives: I don’t think we have one big life purpose.

So then I ask a question: WHY do you want to know your life purpose? And I do mean it genuinly, to find out what it is we really need. And you know what? Almost always, the reason why we want to know what our life purpose is, is because we want our daily lives to have more depth, more reason to it, and want to know – get confirmation you could say – that what we’re doing is really for us, is really what we are supposed to be doing.

I mean, I have totally been there too, for the better part of my adult life, the past 2 decades…. Thinking and thinking about it. What should I do, what can I do, if I do this, is it then good enough, is it really IT, THE THING? And then – I would change jobs and sometimes carreers to go somewhere different, but never really feeling good and satisfied about it, because in the back of my mind there was this voice: is this the best thing, is this the thing, is this my purpose?

But you know the thing about keep looking and hoping to find your life purpose? It keeps you in limbo, it keeps you waiting around for your life to really start.

I suggest we let go of thinking and thinking and reasoning and so on, to find that one big humoungous LIFE PURPOSE. We let go of expecting it to be revealed to us, in some grand manner. And we also: and that’s the most important thing, we also let go of waiting to do beautiful, gorgeous thing that are perfect for us, aligned with who we are, just because we’re not sure yet if it’s in lign with our life purpose.

*And – you know – there might be  such a life purpose, but I personally feel that it’s bigger than that, maybe you could see it more as a theme in your life, reoccuring over and over in your life time, that may or may not become apparent to you and which is

Okay…. but what to do then? How to approach this? Because you’re here because don’t want to continue just doing something, anything. You want more alignment, more fulfillment, that’s why you wanted your life purpose, am I right?

So, we go from life purpose to living a life on purpose: it sounds almost the same, but it’s different as we take the focus away from a big, all-encompassing life purpose, ONE single thing you came here to do.

But what you always can find out is what at this very moment, today, is an action, a direction, a choice, an idea, a dream that is in lign with your true self, and if you follow it, if you execute those prompts you got, you make sure that every day you live a life on purpose.  You set things into motion, your trust by acting on it will make room for next little and big prompts as I call them to come onto your path, and believe it or not, it will continue. We’ll talk more about this in a minute.

*Because, and I know it’s not necessarily what others in the intuitive world might say, but it is my strong belief that ‘finding’ (you can’t see it of course, but I’m saying this with air quotes) ‘finding’ your life purpose, like something of an old  lost suitcase in a railway station somewhere, is not something we should be focussing on. This is not about whether or not such a life purpose exists, as I said, it’s more that: ultimately if we focus on that, we will be in a state of waiting around until it has somehow been reveiled to us. We may get (a bit) overwhelmed and frustated and maybe even diminishing our self worth or our trust. Imagine that you know you need more meaning in your life and more connection to yourself, but you don’t know your life purpose yet, you will put off giving more meaning, connecting more to who you really are. Because you haven’t gotten confirmation that that is where you should go. Let’s say you were looking for a new carreer oportunity… you might in the end, for a lack of a defined life purpose, take just a more or less random job for the time being, and if that’s not what you want, then it’s not ideal, right?

And if we talk about the process of actually finding that life purpose? Most of the time we use our western techniques, fill in tests or talk with a coach, and there’s really nothing wrong with that at all. Except maybe that we overlook an enourmous source of wisdom we leave out here, which is our intuition, our feeling, our souls, our body wisdom… I do think these strategies can distract us from *what it is really about. We want to find our life purpose so we know, we really finally know, that we are living the way it was meant for us, that we are living in the right way, that we are contributing where we’re supposed to, that we’re using our gifts in the way they were meant to be used, that we are being who we really and truly are: if we know all those things we feel our life becomes more true and meaningful. And that is really true! And the good news is, the way I see it, you can achieve knowledge about these things in a much simpler way, and starting right now.

So, to the practical side of things now! how do you get to living purposefully every day, in your normal day-to-day life? I have to admit: this part does take a little practice to perfect, but you can get the system working for you already immediately, today.

*There are many purpose paths for you that are completely and truly in alignment with who you are. There are many different ways to pick, it’s up to us. To follow them, to incorporate them into your life, so you always feel fulfilled  is really an easy daily thing. The process is being aware of sudden thoughts, directions, prompts, ideas you get, coincidences happening and even songs playing or billboards, cards or other images grabbing your attention and then, after realizing what it might mean for you, taking action on what you got: Action in the form of taking just one step in that general or specific direction that you were given. That one step, if indeed it was a prompt from your intuition or soul or otherwise, will be followed by another message. You will take action again, and this will continue. That way you will always be on the your purpose path, every day.

There are 2 challenges in this process for most people. The first is to recognize a prompt for what it in fact is, so a message. And the second challenge is then to trust what came through for you, even if what you receive seems rediculous, unlikely, not for you, a coincidence, just your imagination, and so on.

Let’s first talk about that first challenge, so to recognize these messages for what they are. It’s important to realize that these do not have to be enormous things, huge new shifts happening every day. That’s the beauty of how this really works…. It’s one small direction, that will give room for something else, and then another thing can happen….etc

You must train yourself to recognize any prompts you get from your intuition, your soul, your higher self, or even other sources such as spirit guides or departed loved ones if you are comfortable with that. But the ladder doesnt’ matter yet for right now, the important bit is to start to listen to what is coming in for you every day. If we want to perceive more and better, we have to train our awareness, so our seeing, hearing, feeling, knowing abilities. There are a few things you can do to get better at this. Right now, for most of us, we mostly live inside our heads. You probably know what I mean: we think about things, and we’re very busy thinking those things, and we’re constantly feeding our thinking mind with new stuff from outside, so films, social media. We’re so used to putting in constant stream of input into our thinking minds. And what we want to achieve here, is to become more aware of things coming in not from our active . What would help here is to become a bit more quiet. In more of a stillness we can start to train our awareness. You can start with being in stillness and the one time focussing on all sounds coming in. Not for labeling them, but for the practice of the awareness alone. Another time, you focus on feelings, physical feelings inside your body. Another time while taking a walk you focus on visuals, on what you see. Again, not for labeling, like “I see a bird, I see a trash can” etc, but more of a calm taking in and training to let go of your need to do something with it, just see and return to your calm awareness. These are ways to familiarize yourself again to moments in your day where you don’t necessarily feel the need to fill up your time, to be busy, but to also feel comfortable just being and perceiving. You’re practicing being in stillness and practicing your awareness: really an important skilll in becoming fully aware in recognizing prompts from your intuition and feeling confident that you know what they are when they actually happen.

Another great way to start actually recognizing possible messages, prompts that are meant for you, is to put in an intention that it is actually your wish to recognize these messages. You can build it in into a habit you already have, such as gratitude journalling, a meditation practice, some relaxation exercises before going to sleep or a relaxing shower or bath: at the end of any of those activities, you can intend for yourself to pick up on messages, so you can say to yourself or out loud: “It is my intention to perceive and recognize any message meant for me today”. If you repeat this often enough, you will start to notice more and more things that could be something. And when that happens more and more, you’ll become more confident in knowing and recognizing what is actually happening.

And as I said, the other big challenge in this process of receiving and acting on prompts so that you’ll be on your purpose path every day, is to trust what you perceive is in fact some form of guidance or direction. This one requires a bit of a mind shift. And it’s quite doable actually. I made a lower priced minicourse that in just 5 days helps you to achieve a much bigger trust in your intuiton, so in how your intuition is guiding you. As you can imagine, a big chunck of the work here is about quieting the thinking mind, which has for all of us a lot of objections why these messages or this guidance cannot be right for us: it is only our imagination, it is only a coincidence, it is not meant for us, we cannot do this thing, we’re not smart enough, or beautiful, quick, thin, rich, etc enough and you can imagine a lot of other things that you hear in those cases, I’m sure. And then, it is very usefull to dive deep into finding out how our intuition has guided us before, why we didn’t follow up on it and what might have gone differently if we had. And big part of building trust has to do with self love, so this has to be a big focus as well, if you’re trying to build the trust in yourself, in your perception and in your intuition.
