Your soul's purpose
What is your soul’s purpose?
We all are inclined to hope it is that ONE special thing that we came to do in our lives. But more likely, we may actually have several – and we may not fulfil or live up to all of them. So our eternal search for our ‘soul’s purpose’ may be a futile one.
On the other hand, there is enough ‘evidence’(yes, you see, I worked in law for a decade) to support that ‘life’ or your higher self – or your guides for that matter, or your guardian angel – are always at work trying to prompt you to live your soul’s purpose. There are so many moments of instant intuition, so many light bulbs in the morning after waking up to problems you went to bed with, so many sudden great ideas when you are in the shower. There are things you have loved to do since you were little. There are things in your work that you’re just great at. There are things you can keep doing, forgetting the time, even going on when you’re really tired. Can you think of a time when you were doing something late at night and you just couldn’t stop doing it, even though you knew you had to get up early the next morning? You see, those are the moments that matter, that’s what we’re talking about here.
Personally, I live by the conviction that we have a ‘soul contract’ and we incarnated in this particular life for a very specific reason, to do something that you’re good at, to bring something to the world. There is something we each came here to do.
But how do we find out what it is? (Unless you’re some of the happy few who already know …?)

We listen to the prompts, the ideas, the inspiration we get from our helpers, including our higher selves, all day, every day. Try to be extra perceptive to hear them. And then we have to act on them. It’s no use to just get the ideas to take that step in the right direction. We have to take that step that we heard about today. And then tomorrow, we’ll hear something else, and we act on that, and then we hear something and we act on that, and so on. That’s how, one baby step at a time, we get to where we’re supposed to be.
I know it doesn’t sound like much, but believe me, it’s a lot harder than you’d think…. To start with, you always think it’s yourself or your imagination ‘talking’ to you. And you’re probably right. You see, our helpers, guides, higher selves communicate in ways that work with us at that give time. So, if you’re used to listening to yourself in your head, then that’s where they’ll be, inspiring us to our next steps.
But also, so often I just sweep the thought away, because it doesn’t fit my schedule at that time, or I think it’s stupid to do it. Maybe for when I was a child, but not now.
But let’s give this a try together. So, first things first, we have to learn to ‘hear’ the prompts, before we can act on them.
Be perceptive. Stay in the flow of what happens, notice what you think, especially the things that spark your interest. Really feel of what you feel inside and see what your body tells you. Pay special attention to what attracts you. And then – act! Follow your hunches, act out your sudden ideas, take your inspiration seriously, paint that flower you thought of painting (but it seemed useless to do).
That’s how we’ll find it. That’s where our purpose lies, every day, step by step, closer and closer. We keep learning, evolving, and returning to those prompts, but they may be disguised. So pay attention and you might just get there. Where you need to be.
